Dear Colleagues, Friends and Animal Lovers,

NLGNYC Animal Rights Committee announces its July 23rd webinar!  Our subject?  Private ownership of exotic cats in America.

Currently, there are over 3000 lions, tigers and bears in American backyards.  Exactly how many are there?  We don't know.  Add to that ~3000 approximation however many exotics live in Alabama, Nevada, North Carolina and Wisconsin-- none of which require any registration or licensure of exotic beasts.  Other states are a patchwork of various levels of oversight.

Is this a problem?  Yes!  Recall the escaped juvenile tiger that wandered Houston's suburbs May 9th Tiger on loose in Houston for nearly a week moved to animal sanctuary - ABC News (go.com) and the escaped African Serval in Atlanta last weekend? Officials: Exotic cat captured after being on the loose in Brookhaven | News | cbs46.com

Our webinar begins with Congressman Mike Quigley's summary of Big Cat and Public Safety Act (S1210).  Thereafter, eight panelists discuss public safety concerns; the legal patchwork of state laws; the role of the USDA; "real" vs. "fake" sanctuaries, etc.

As always, the webinar is Noon to 1:00pm. and free, with registration via Eventbrite. https://tiger-king-redux.eventbrite.com

Cheers and see you there!
