Summary: Autonomous, horizontal, participatory and self-organized communities, regions and networks are on the rise. From the deepening of the Zapatista experience in Chiapas Mexico, to the Cantons of Rojava, expanding recuperated workplaces in Argentina and the thousands of groupings springing up all around the US, the politics of prefiguration and self-organization continue to develop and expand. At the same time, there is an increasing backlash, from physical and military attacks to ideological challenges from the right and traditional left. This panel will discuss first what is taking place right now, with participants from the movements in Mexico, Kurdistan/Rojava and the US. We will ask, among other things, how we locate these movements practically and theoretically? As well as how theory and practice interact and influence one another. We will conclude with questions to think about together, about how to move forward in this context of deepening polarization, repression and radicalization.
