Please join us to….

Meet and greet Jenny Bock, Senior Regional Organizer of  Friends of the Earth U.S.

To discuss how the National Lawyers Guild – Environmental Justice Committee and YOU can collaborate with Friends of the Earth on key environmental issues, such as:

"Join us to learn about Friends of the Earth’s Green New Deal campaign and you can get involved! Friends of the Earth (FOE) is working with groups in NY and around the country to fight for a fossil-free Green New Deal that upholds indigenous rights,  halts fossil fuel extraction, decarbonizes the agriculture and transportation sector and creates green jobs for all. The Ocasio-Cortez-Markey Green New Deal resolution was a great start but we need to make sure any bill proposed has a clear commitment to phase out all fossil fuels and other harmful energy sources like nuclear. As part of our campaign work we’ve been asking New York City members of Congress to support a fossil-free Green New Deal by asking them to take concrete actions such as:

  • publicly oppose the Williams fracked gas pipeline
  • publicly support the NYS Climate bill, “Climate Communities Protections Act” [DID PASS- we must work on implementation and enforcement]
  • sign the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge

FOE was successful in getting 11 members of the NYC Congressional delegation to send a letter to Governor Cuomo asking him to publicly oppose the Williams fracked gas pipeline.  FOE was  also successful in getting NYS to pass a ban on the bee-killing pesticide chlorpyrifos. As well, they’ve also worked with local groups to help shut down the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Join us to learn about upcoming opportunities to continue to pressure our New York Congressional members to support a fossil-free Green New Deal!"

RSVP to  environmental-justice@earthlink.net if you can attend.
