The NLG-NYU would like to invite you to a teach-in Monday, March 1st, from 6:30-8pm, hosted by NYU’s Solitary Confinement Project and New York’s #HALTsolitary campaign. The campaign brings together advocates working throughout the state to end solitary confinement in prisons and jails.

Five incredible organizers will speak about their personal experiences, the importance of ending solitary confinement, and the HALT bill (S2836) they have so passionately been working to get passed in the NYS Legislature for the past 8+ years.  Amongst other changes, the bill will prohibit solitary beyond 15 days for all people, and ban it entirely for certain vulnerable groups such as adolescents, those with mental illnesses, and pregnant women.

This is an exciting time for the campaign, as the HALT bill currently has majority support in both houses of the legislature. In addition to learning about the history of this campaign, attendees will hear how they can help push this work forward.

This event is open to the public, so please feel free to forward this information on to your friends, families, and colleagues.

Thank you to NYU’s EPIC Advocacy for co-sponsoring this event!
